Creating a content marketing strategy

Selecting transcript lines in this section will navigate to timestamp in the video – It’s vitally important for you to be actively building your website so domain authority has a long-term marketing strategy, and to help you gain search engine traffic.  The best way to do this and to bring people back to your website consistently is by using content.

You need to ensure that this content is quality content, and you don’t only have to use it on your website, you can also use quality content on other platforms.  But how do you ensure that you stay consistent with producing content, and how do you ensure that your content is resonating with your website visitors and also to the search engines?

The answer to this is a content marketing strategy.

So what exactly is a content marketing strategy?

Well, it’s a plan that will help you to create and publish content on various platforms, including your blog and various other platforms.  These platforms may include Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or even YouTube.  There are some key questions that you want to ask yourself when creating your content strategy.

Where are my target visitors actually spending their time online?

It’s important to know where your target customers are online.  In this way, you know where you need to be marketing.  If you know that the bulk of your visitors are spending their time on YouTube, then you need to make sure that you’re creating some sort of YouTube marketing strategy.

Also, you want to look at your strengths.  What are you good at, or what are you not so good at,  or maybe don’t have the resources to do at the moment?

You might identify that YouTube is a great platform for you to be putting out content, because that is where the bulk of your website visitors are coming from.  However, if you don’t have the resources to be consistent on YouTube at the moment, or maybe you’re just not that good on camera, then it might not be a platform that you want to spend time on.

Lastly, what platform is yielding the most results for you?

You want to make sure that you’re consistently analyzing the platforms that you’re on, and not just being on there because it looks cool or it looks fancy, or because someone has suggested that platform.  Measure the results that you’re actually getting from that platform.

Are you building engaging communities?

Are you actually driving traffic back to your website?

Do you feel like that particular platform is actually moving the needle for your overall website marketing strategy?

If you feel like that platform is helping you and helping your website, then continue on it. If not, then maybe spend less time on it, or forget that platform altogether. So why is creating content so vital for your search engine optimization?

It helps you to build authority. Creating content is your way of proving to the search engines that you are an authority in a subject matter. Let’s say, for an example, you are a fitness instructor. You might be an expert in showing people how to lose weight,  in showing people what they need to be eating, and also showing people different exercise regimes.

If you’re putting out quality content that helps people with these tips and advice, then eventually, the search engines will start seeing your fitness tips as authoritative. If people are sharing your fitness tips on social media and linking to your fitness tips on other websites, then search engines will see these links coming back to your site.  In time, you are likely to increase your overall website domain authority, and when you put out fitness tips, you are likely to outrank people who have not been putting out consistent content.

It also helps to build a community on social media.  When you’re creating content, that engages people on social media and gives them a reason to want to follow you.  Building authority doesn’t just have to happen on your website, but you can actually build authority and build communities on other social media platforms, and that authority you build on those platforms will then be transferred back to your website and help improve your overall website SEO.

It helps you to get linked to.  So in essence, when you’re creating content, you’re giving something for people to link back to. This could be high authority websites, or people using social media linking back to your website, or content that you’ve put out there on social media.

All of these links help you to build higher authority in the search engines.
